In the Pacific War, there were numerous battles from 1941 to 1945. Most of these have been titled in relation to the geographical location. These included both land and naval encounters, which also involved a many aircraft in combat. To begin with, however, was the first at Pearl Harbor.

Remembering White Star's Olympic-Class Ships
White Star Line was the British shipping company that constructed some of the largest passenger ships of their day. These were the Olympic-class ships that were constructed before World War I, and were the largest ships in the world. Although not always the fastest, they could transport thousands of passengers. There were three Olympic-class ships: the Olympic, Britannic, and the Titanic.

The History of the Italian Colonial Empire in the 20th Century
The Italian colonial empire dated back to the latter part of the 19th century, when Italy first began to gain additional territories in Africa. Although their empire-building at the time was not always effective, as they were defeated by African countries such as Ethiopia. Britain and France dominated Africa, so there were few worthwhile colonies for the Italians to gain without a colonial war. Nonetheless, expanding the Italian Empire remained a part of Italian foreign policy for decades during the 20th century.

A Timeline of the Dutch East Indies Campaign in World War II
The Dutch East Indies Campaign was a campaign of the Pacific War. This was a campaign around the islands of Indonesia, targeting the Allied airfields and oil supplies of the Dutch East India Company. It began in late 1941 and continued until March 1942. The Japanese held all the aces in a campaign in which they routed the Allied armies and naval presence in the region.

The American Involvement in the Pacific and the Far East
The United States involvement in the war generally came as a result of tensions in the Pacific and Far East with the Japanese Empire. Japanese advances into China had concerned the West, in addition to the Japanese withdrawal from the League of Nations during the 1930s. As such, the United States and others began to freeze exports to Japan in the early 1940s.

Naval battles of World War 2 are sometimes forgotten. However, some of the most notable Pacific battles were at sea, and naval battles in the Mediterranean were also important to the Allies in north Africa and the landings on Italy. Remembering the Great Allied Carrier-Based Aircraft of the 1940s
The Allies had the largest fleets of aircraft carriers. Only the Imperial Japanese Navy had a fleet of aircraft carriers to match them, and theirs were gradually wiped out in the Pacific War. Neither the Germans nor the Italians had constructed any, and this certainly gave the Allies an advantage at sea. The Royal Navy and U.S. Navy had a range of carrier-based planes, and there were a few that had some impact.

Famous Axis and Allied Air Raids of World War II
To strike from the air became a big part of both the Japanese and Allied strategy in the Pacific. The effectiveness of large-scale airstrikes in wiping out naval fleets had already been highlighted at Taranto in 1940, and with aircraft carriers, various coastal targets could be reached by the IJN (Imperial Japanese Navy) and the U.S. Navy. In the Pacific, there were a few famous air raids.

Britain's Victories and Defeats in World War I
Britain declared war on Germany in 1914 after German troops violated Belgium's neutrality. Britain’s involvement in this war would largely be preoccupied with the Western Front and naval battles with the Imperial German Navy, but Britain and its colonial armies were also involved on other fronts with Ottoman Turkey in the Middle East. As the British Empire won this war, it had more victories than defeats.

The Russian Empire was one in which the Romanov monarchy reigned until 1917. It was essentially an autocratic monarchy topped by the Russian king, otherwise the tsar. The kings of Russia were not always heroes of the Russian people, but they still remained on the throne until a worldwide war shattered the monarchy.
