I could have been anywhere when I sat myself down here. The air around me is peaceful. The swirls of wind in the distance are like an ambience and I’m free from the everyday. It’s not loud or dramatic but it makes me jump from my skin. It means the end for me and I cannot take it anymore.

Early evening, exactly 6pm. She knew this because she glanced at her phone. The clock tower behind her struck. Six, strong chimes, each more confident than the last. Then, finally, peace and quiet. The park resumed its normal, slow pace of life.

She hated Summer with a deep passion for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons, was that in Summer, besides the baking heat, it would only go dark later in the evening, which made it hard to go to sleep, and Molly needed her sleep to function.

Trevor and Susie knew they were old and past it. Fifty years married to each other, travelling the world together, they never regretted their adrenal junkie lifestyle. The only thing they did miss out on was their chance to become parents and then grandparents. It just wasn’t to be. Susie was told she couldn’t conceive. By the time they had lived their dreams and wanted to settle down, life had caught up to them.
