U.S. military to automatically register eligible men for draft by year’s end

Ring the death knell for individual freedom if the draft is at all implemented again. While the Selective Service has not announced or indicated that the draft will start, a lottery system may be put in place based on birthdays just like the Vietnam War era.

All of this is heinous talk. A volunteer armed forces carries both practical and moral implications. The practical is that a military where people actually volunteer to defend a nation like America worth defending is of paramount importance.

Morally, the stakes reach ever higher. To snatch someone up and throw Johnny or Tyrell or Angel (there is currently no Selective Service for females) into the fight even though he wishes to not be in warfare is horrific. For the protection of life and limb, it is imperative that the draft never return in any way in any incarnation.

The brain and the body are too precious to just send random males in to train and become members of the United States Armed Forces. They will not want to fight most likely and the litigious nature of this country would be on full display as lawyers argue against selecting males as well.

And depending on whether the war is just or not to an individual should be at the forefront as well. Currently, America is engaged in a war against Iran. This is a proper war as Iran is a despicable country that needs to be brought to its knees. But that doesn’t give license to just put a guy in boots because he’s between the ages of 18 and 25.

At such young ages, males are planning out what they want to do with their lives. If they do not wish to have their appendages blown off or their brains damaged or encounter mental disorders, they should possess the prerogative to make their own decisions about their own lives.

If Selective Service bleeds into the draft it will be the first time in over fifty years since the notion had been implemented. Another practical application is that members who want to be in uniform will show up and be multiple times more ready and willing to defend a grateful nation.

Conversely, if a draftee decides on not being part of the fight, he may desert from his unit altogether. This could happen a number of times and actually weaken the forces through low morale. If there is a military that is less than 1% of the population that has shown bravery and courage in two wars that had been quagmires and disasters, there is no necessity for Selective Service or the draft or a lottery.

There is no need in stacking corpses and sending more people to alcohol and drug abuse programs or rehabilitation specialists following the war. Let the men and women who wish to protect the homeland fight for their own selfish rights. As a byproduct, they will have served to safeguard the lives of Americans.

When it comes to the military that is elite in comparison with any other country, the United States is in a unique position. With an influx of draftees, that might diminish the power of the Forces.

Once there is a story about how even on male drafted into the US military is covered, the media will pounce on the idea that any thoughts about a draft would be anathema to the American way. Individualism should still be the deciding factor in whether Selective Service or a draft should be put into place.

The individual should make up his own mind to fight or not. The government should only protect his rights to his decision and his own person. That’s it.
