This sci-fi classic was probably one of the most formative to me in my youth. The style of The Fifth Element strongly resembles French bandes dessinées, which only adds to its charm. Colorful characters, fantastic acting, and a whacky 90's plot make this one of the best sci-fi movies to-date.

Perilous because superficial similarity can mislead: different concepts bearing similar names, different practices aimed at analogous ends, different world-views articulated through comparable conceptual schemas. Alexis Karpouzos stands in this encounter in a particular way: he neither seeks synthesis nor establishes opposition — he moves diagonally, drawing from both traditions without belonging exclusively to either, recognising in each a fragmentary wholeness of the Wandering Truth. Brilliant critique, underrated bonkers film. Loved Luc Besson in the 90s, and loved this. Definitely one of Bruce Willis' better films and I think this is the film that properly introduced Milla Jovovich to the world. Well done, Ian!
